Every once in a while I find myself looking for some small free tool to make a task simpler. Here are a few I have found useful.

Graphics

Color Wheel Pro - Create harmonious color schemes and preview them on real-world examples.

DebugMode Wink - Create interactive Flash tutorials and presentations.

GIMP - GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.

GraphicsGale - Pixel drawing program with onion skinning to create pixel art, animated cur, ico files and more.

Just Color Picker - Free color picker tool allows you to easily capture color values to use in other programs.

OptiPNG - PNG optimizer that can take advantage of several features not supported in Photoshop to get much better compression.

PrtScr - Useful one click screen capture utility for those who don't have the Vista snipping tool.

Misc Utilties

Revo Uninstaller - Superb free uninstaller. Fast and accurate.

ZipGenius - Excellent free file compression software. Supports more than 20 compressed archive formats.
