The word casual has several meanings. In every day usage this may include something without serious intent, indifferent, informal, or relaxed. Early on, when I first heard the term Casual Games, I associated it with games with less depth and attention to detail. How wrong I was.
Thanks in part to my son and nieces, I've had the opportunity to play quite a few casual games. As an artist I have been very impressed with the quality of the illustration, modeling, character design, layouts and interface elements of most of these.
What follows are some samples of wonderful casual game art which I hope will prove inspirational. I want to give special thanks to David Laprad of Alawar Games, who produce several games available on BigFishGames, for providing some concept and game art from their titles. Other art is from my BigFishGames store. If you are interested in design, illustration, kid's markets or just want to play some cool games I encourage you to get your free account at BigFishGames, download your free games, and walk through with an artist's eye. I think you'll really appreciate what you see. I've signed up just so I can keep an eye on the newest artwork in these little gems - and maybe to have some fun while I'm doing it.
