Burt Abreu - Art Samples

This page contains some older work from 2004-2005 which I had put together when I decided to go back to school. I was uncertain of my artistic ability and afraid they'd laugh me out the door. I thought it best to send them a link and have them evaluate my efforts before risking public humiliation. I must confess that as an older guy, starting a new career, I'm still not fully confident in my ability. However, I've found that life doesn't stand still and wait for you to be comfortable - usually you have to plow through the thorny thickets and hope there's not a cliff on the other side.

Here are a very few samples of my playing with art in the past year or so. In presenting this I realize that these are not professional quality examples, rather my intent is to show that I do have some innate ability and interest that would make me a good candidate for the animation program at Brooks College. The page is rather long and plain - so I'm not showcasing my html ability -just wanted to get it done.

Texture Work

I've been experimenting with textures for about two years. The following samples are textures I created to use in 3D Game Studio a real time 3D game development system. Here are a few of the dozens of textures I created as part of texture requests from forum members and just for fun. Most are hand drawn, or hand drawn with some photosourcing, in Paint Shop Pro.

Real Time 3D Game Levels

Here are a few screen shots from partial levels I made in 3D Game Studio to test my textures.

3D Modeling

I haven't really learned much 3D modeling but I did take an Intro to 3DS Max class about two years ago which lasted two weekends. These images are from the original scene I had to create before the end of the last class.

Cartooning & Animation

I picked up a copy of Moho recently and have been playing with the animation and vector drawing tools. Here are a few items I have done recently. The animations are only about 3 seconds long and are here to show my interest rather than technical expertise. There are also a few items from the CGTalk Daily Sketch forum; in this latter forum a theme is posted, like 'Twins' and you try to post a quick, unique piece based on the theme. Most of them are 30-90 minute efforts so not greatly detailed.

Misc Toons

Here are a few fish sketches I was going to try to turn into characters in a small animation.

Hodge-Podge Images & Final Words

Here are a few final images done with demo versions of DogWaffle, Paint Shop Pro and other paint programs in no special grouping. I have also dabbled with clay, tried my hand at making puppets, ink drawing, web design as well as several other experiments that probably place me closer to mad scientist than artist. :) The truth is I am curious about many things and I hope that at Brook College I can get the skills to enter a creative field.

I don't have any clay pieces that survived my kids play so I made a quick head -(at least you know I have touched clay) and dug up one of my experiment boxes so you can see I wasn't kidding about the mad science. :)
