Creating Surface Texture with Photoshop Brushes
I've gotten a few emails from people who wanted to know how to use these brushes to create realistic surfaces. I created a quick video that shows a few techniques. It is raw and unedited but should give you a few ideas. Please let me know if you find it helpful.
There is a preview version and a high res which will play in popup window. You can also download the file for offline viewing if you prefer.

My intent with this batch was to create some dirt and stain brushes -hence the 'dirty fingers' name. I'm not sure how well I did but hope they will be of some use to you. I took various pices of paper and stained them with stuff I had in the cabinets and then scanned them and made them into brushes. You can preview the brushes in this collection here.

SV Wood Damage Brushes Vol 1 | downloads: 3515 | type: zip | size: 419 kB |
Here is a small collection of 10 brushes I made to damage wood -or anything else you want to try it on. The ZIP contains a Photoshop abr file which you need to put in your Photoshop\Presets\Brushes folder.
I made the brushes from images of fungus, rotten, cracked, gnarled, and axe bitten wood. I used one of the brushes along with some layer effects to create the moss, stamp some damage marks and with the eraser to expose a lighter wood layer beneath. I didn't add any presets so you can fiddle with the brush settings. You can also preview the brushes in this collection here.

I made the brushes by combining layers of fungus, rotten, cracked, gnarled, and axe bitten wood with some simple fractals. I used a few of the brushes to create the sample image on this page. You can also preview the brushes in this collection here.
